This Precious Desert Disappear?

Sunset Over Yucca Valley

The 29 Palms Band of Mission Indians tribe wants to take over the vacant land along Highway 62 near the entrance of Yucca Valley to build a large truck stop they’re euphemistically calling a “Travel Center”. The local government has not made this information available to comment on. We don’t need another corporate backroom deal to bypass our collective concerns. Only so much desert is left to preserve the endangered tortoise, the Yucca trees, and the rest of its precious wildlife.

That’s why we’re calling on area residents and anyone who wants to support our efforts to Stand With Yucca Valley to Stop these project in its tracks.

This Plan Does Not Represent the People of The Morongo Basin.
Residents Have Had No Say In this Project.

This land grab will kill hundreds of Joshua Trees.

This land is home to thousands of living species.

This land is a corridor and refuge for the big horn sheep.

This land is a refuge for the Least Bell’s Vireo bird.

The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians tribe has already killed or harmed over a dozen Joshua trees; they have no respect for the environment.

Homeowners in the neighborhood are already suffering from the presence of Cannabis dispensary patrons using the surrounding neighborhood as personal loitering spots.

Country Club Mobil Estates is directly across the street with over a hundred senior citizens living there. The pollution will be devastating for their health.

Residents in Country Club neighborhoods and Morongo Valley will suffer life-threatening delays from emergency vehicles trying to get to them.

Yucca Valley Elementary is one mile away from the development site. The children will suffer from increased pollution and delays in getting to and from school.

A travel center by its very nature will bring in a constant flow of semi-trailer truck traffic, around the clock, at all hours of the morning to what is otherwise a peaceful neighborhood.

The town of Yucca Valley plans to accommodate the tribe by paving roads through a residential neighborhood.

Home values will surely decline drastically with a truck stop.

Over 20,000 residents in Yucca Valley and the 70,700 residents of the Morongo Basin should not suffer for the benefit and will of the 25-member Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians tribe.

Those of us who have grown up here realize this is the absolute worst thing to ever happen to The Morongo Basin.
