MUST READ!
The 25-member tribe, Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians, RECENTLY PURCHASED 7 ACRES in secrecy on the west end of Yucca Valley. The tribe stated to the BIA and the Secretary of Interior that the tribe would not develop the land. This false statement allowed the tribe to bypass all wildlife conservation preservation efforts, community engagement, and EPA and NEPA scrutiny. With the assistance of the Yucca Valley City Council, they ARE DEVELOPING the land. The tribe has already killed multiple Joshua Trees. They are disturbing hibernating Desert Tortoises, and the tribe has plans to expand their business interests, which will destroy the Morongo Basin forever!
Apparently, all levels of government have been informed and are failing to relay to its citizenry the scope of impact this will have on the community. They’ve deprived the public of the opportunity to comment.
At this moment, the tribe is petitioning the BIA and the Secretary of the Interior for another 26 acres to build a massive urban complex. The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians do not give a shit about our desert, us, and our wildlife or Joshua Trees. Once they acquire approval and land becomes sovereign, the tribe is not beholden to the interests of the community or its governance. Right now, they intend on building a “Travel Center”. According to the city, this is part of a MUCH BIGGER PROJECT. They currently operate a gas station in the city of Coachella, consisting of 59 PUMPS catering to eighteen-wheeler big rigs. Other business ventures include gambling casinos and a cannabis dispensary. Due to the tribe’s secretive nature, it is unclear what the future development plans of the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians really are. We assure you their plans have zero regard for wildlife, Joshua Trees, Desert Tortoises, or the US!
Whether you are concerned with the decimation of wildlife or your quality of life, we ask that you join our coalition to Save Yucca Valley!
The 30 ACRES of Joshua Tree forest that the tribe proposed to develop is not protected by California law. This Joshua Tree Forest is home to a magnificent, vibrant, healthy, and thriving ecological system that’s home to thousands of species including threatened species and the federally-listed endangered Desert Tortoise.
A spokesman for the tribe claims that they are “going to have the ability to analyze and figure out exactly what offering this community really wants and supports.” We can find no evidence of them consulting local citizens. “This” community is OUR community.
In a press release dated December 6th, 2024, the TOWN continues to collaborate with the tribe on matters of mutual interest as both entities share a strong autonomous relationship built on trust, respect, and dedication to their constituencies.
It would appear that this collaboration is not being disclosed to the public. When asking local citizens no one seems to be aware of any of this.
2011 – Joshua Tree, The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians attempted to develop a casino. The Tribe was met with fierce pushback from the people of Joshua Tree, and residents of Morongo Basin, local and state wildlife protection organizations, and state officials. Their plans were thwarted.
At that time, we also had a strong County Supervisor defending and protecting wildlife and looking out for the people in the Morongo Basin. Currently, our county supervisor is silent and has not taken any interest at all in the total devastation of Yucca Valley being planned by the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians.
DO NOT LET THEM TELL YOU THERE’S NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT!
PLEASE JOIN US BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!
